Mercury revealed

Further to this entry, James MacMahon of the NME
has outed
this year's Mercury Music Prize judges, who last week gave the prize to Speech Debelle. The panel was:

Janice Long - Former BBC Radio 1 DJ, now of Radio 2 - (born 5 April 1955)

Charles Hazlewood - British classical music conductor - (born 14 November 1966)

Jude Rogers - Guardian music columnist

Arwa Haider - Metro newspaper music critic

George Ergatoudis - Head of Music, BBC Radio 1

Conor McNicholas - Editor of Top Gear magazine (formerly of NME)

Mike Flynn - Jazz editor of Time Out magazine

John Kennedy - DJ and presenter of X-Posure new music show on XFM

Mark Findlay - Head of Music, Global Radio

Dean Jackson - DJ BBC Radio Nottingham

They have a classical music person (despite no classical music being shortlisted for years) and a jazz person but no folk music expert. Plus lots of indie/rock people and lots of BBC people.
